Panel 3: Gotta say, for a lettering riff attempted off the top of 2014 Me's head, the HeroNet Prime logo's not too shabby.
Panel 5: It only now occurs to me that an especially amusing way to play up this character's positively Liefeldian pouch-intensiveness would've been to replace his glasses with... two more pouches, one over each eye. IIRC, though, his design is loosely based on a background character from some fairly obscure Jim Burns painting in Harry Harrison's old SF book Mechanismo.
Not also a prominent use of what I've dubbed "the profile cheat," a cartoony visual riff that I once used to sneak additional character reaction into a shot where one wouldn't (ahem) "realistically" see said character's face. That is, I'm showed Emp's profile to work in her reaction to what's being said, even though she'd actually be facing away from the pouchy cape from this angle. Nowadays, though, I'm no longer fond of the ol' "profile cheat," as its cartooniness has come to bug me for some reason.
Today’s Patreon update: In an attempt to scratch out more worktime to complete the long-gestating Empowered vol. 12, I've switched over to a Monday/ Wednesday/ Friday Patreon posting schedule that won't feature the fixed content format I previously used. However, my vast archive of years of Patreon posts—extensive Empowered previews, vintage con sketches, work stages on covers, "damsel in distress" commissions, life drawings & much, much more—remains available for Patrons' perusal.
