Panel 1: A good ol’ “L-shaped panel” here, folks, as one more I trot out a page-layout riff borrowed from Frank Thorne’s 70s run on Red Sonja.
Panel 2: Here, behold a slight variation on how I draw Emp’s lips, probably inspired by a series of interesting (if often wonky) stylistic variations featured in an artbook by the protean artist Takeshi Okazaki. That fella’s an inspiration to us all, as he’s roughly my age and debuted with the manga Explorer Woman Ray (made into an anime during the early days of OAVs) when I was still in school, but has since cycled through a fascinating array of varying art styles and approaches over the decades that followed. (I’d attach some links for Okazaki, but my DSL’s not playing nice this morning; I’m typing up these commentaries in Word while I’m offline.)
And that’s the end of the Superdead training sequence, folks! Tomorrow, it’s time for the beginning of the end—or, the end of the beginning, more accurately—as we kick off the final scene from “Hell, Yeah,” the anthology-format story that’s taken up most of the first half of Empowered vol. 8. Wheeee!Today’s Patreon Update: As this is a Monday, time for our weekly double dose of life drawings new-ish (2018) and old (2017) along with the high-res Photoshop raw scans for both of ‘em, available to all Patron tiers.
