Tried somethin' different with this page's RRRMMMBBB sound FX by adding an open white core to my usual blocky black FX (hand-)lettering. Not sure if successful, but definitely worth trying out.

As of recent Empowered volumes, I've branched out into a superficially similar but differently handled approach, in that I sometimes letter FX entirely as open white fonts, then ink in a thick black outline around 'em. In an amusing turn of events, this analog-media technique is derived from a trick I've been using in digital media (such as Clip Studio Paint) to disguise how crappy my hand-lettering looks when using an Apple pencil or stylus; select crappy lettering, add black outline around it as a stroke, then bucket-fill the font with white, and voila! Instantly less crappy-looking lett'rin' (though YMMV on this point).
