Panels 1-2: That club’s seeming downward arc in panel 1 and upward arc in panel 2 bugs me a fair bit. In fact, we were supposed to be seeing a strict side-to-side swing, but that would've been difficult to properly convey from the particular camera angles I used for these two panels.

Panel 6-8: Borrowed the fight choreography for this bit from a book that took historical Japanese martial-arts grappling moves meant to be carried out in full samurai armor and updated them as hand-to-hand “combatives” that modern-day American soldiers in heavy-duty body armor could carry out. The name of that book escapes me, alas.

Next week, the fight scene rolls on before we jump back for a sudden and alarming development in the cape karaoke flashback scene. (Yeahp, as noted frequently before, Empowered vol. 7 boasts far and away the most fractured and, well, “jumpy” timeline of any volume in the series.)
