Panel 2: Whatever the hell that unnamed supervill’s name might be, I can tell you that her costume is an homage to a Japanese game character that I once drew for an illo in a friend’s doujinshi. (Unfortunately, at present I can’t quite recall what the hell the name of that game was, as I don’t think it was ever brought over to the US market.)
Panel 3: The lassoing riff miiiiiight just be a reference to a fairly notorious Spider-Woman damsel-in-distress scene from the late 70s, a sequence which I’ve done a fair number—or, possibly, an inordinate number—of “DiD” commissions based on. (At least Emp has some rationale for being “lassoable”; I don’t think anyone’s ever No-Prized up an explanation why or how the superstrong Jessica Drew wound up distressed by a non-powered schmo like the Hangman.)
Panel 4: Ehh, could’ve left off those less-than-critical word balloons at the bottom of the page.
Today’s Patreon update: Probably another dose of Vintage Con Sketches, from the late-90s/early-2000s era when I was cranking out a ton of ’em.
