Continuing yesterday's account of my mid-to-late 2017 "freeze-up" on Empowered vol. 11 art production, I should clarify that I had lost any and all interest in producing finished comics artwork for the book. Pretty sure that I could've churned out layouts for the rest of the book at the time, but I was loath to do so, as that is the part of the artwork process that I actually enjoy, or at least the part that holds my attention and focus the most. Laying out the rest of the book all at once would've condemned me to subsequently face month upon month of nothing but the unfulfilling, uninteresting, tedious gruntwork of endless rendering and "tightening-up" and art correx.

This lack of interest in grinding out tightly delineated "final art" was, in fact, why I stopped drawing full-size comics artwork after the miniseries Dirty Pair: Run from the Future in 1999-2000. By that time, I was so sick of spending seemingly all my g-d worktime on cranking out the mindless detail work required by my art style and work process that I had hoped to transition over to only writing comics, not drawing 'em. (Ehh, this goal was definitively not achieved, alas.)

More tomorrow, folks!

Today’s Patreon update: Originally done as a means of scratching out more worktime to complete the long-gestating Empowered vol. 12, I've switched over to a Monday/ Wednesday/ Friday Patreon posting schedule that won't feature the fixed content format I previously used. However, my vast archive of years of Patreon posts—extensive Empowered previews, work-in-progress updates on developmental projects such as fantasy comics The Chaste and the Chained and The Last Party, vintage con sketches, work stages on covers, "damsel in distress" commissions, life drawings & much, much more—remains available for Patrons' perusal.
