Panel 1: The webcomic format did this joke no favors, as we saw the G-d Maidman bursting through a window on the previous page (as seen last Friday).

Behold another rapid-fire "action montage," a series of disconnected images of mayhem that makes up a storytelling riff borrowed from the Kirby comic reprints of my youth. After encountering the fluid action of mangaka like Otomo and Shiro and Yaz back in the day, I used to produce only "connected" action sequences, in which every move leads to the next in a continuous flow; but as much as I cherished (and still cherish) that ideal approach, such narratives consume a stupendous amount of "pagespace" (as opposed to "screen-time" in a movie or TV format) and are wholly incompatible with limited pagecounts.

Pretty sure I started deploying occasional "Kirby action montages" quite late in my Dirty Pair career; while such rapidfire barrages don't offer the smooth experience of a classic Shirow or Sonoda action sequence, this "staccato" narrative approach does boast a certain appealing energy all its own.

Panel 5: That "pyramid of speed lines" is a neat concept, gotta say; I should remember that for future reference!

Today’s Patreon update: Originally done as a means of scratching out more worktime to complete the long-gestating Empowered vol. 12, I've switched over to a Monday/ Wednesday/ Friday Patreon posting schedule that won't feature the fixed content format I previously used. So, who knows what today's post might feature? Could be Life Drawing or Distressed Damsels content (both of which are featured at least three times per month), or something in the Work Stages, Vintage Con Sketches or Design departments, or possibly something entirely new, such as updates on fantasy test projects The Last Party and The Chaste and the Chained. Golly!
