We continue serialization of 2013's one-shot Empowered: Nine Beers with Ninjette (as collected in the anthology volume Empowered Unchained), featuring sweet B&W art by Guest Artist Takeshi Miyazawa and lettering by Susie Lee.

On the lettering front, Susie had handled the lettering and retouch art on the Studio Proteus translation of Kenichi Sonoda's manga Cannon God Exaxxion in the Dark Horse anthology title Super Manga Blast! (note the in-title exclamation point), for which I had been the English rewrite/ dialogue polish guy, working from a base translation by Dana Lewis. I was also the rewrite guy on Hiroyuki Utatane's manga Seraphic Feather, likewise serialized in Super Manga Blast!

I took on those rewrite jobs as a favor for my late friend Toren Smith of Studio Proteus fame; however, favor or not, I should hasten to add that Toren paid me (and the others who worked on those Proteus translations) quite generously, to the point that I might have made more off single chapters of Exaxxion and Seraphic Feather rewrites than most translators earn per entire 160-page tankoubon nowadays. (A few years ago, I was approached about a rewrite gig on a semi-recent manga, and I recall being taken aback by how insanely low a page rate I was offered.)

Today’s Patreon update: Originally done as a means of scratching out more worktime to complete the long-gestating Empowered vol. 12, I've switched over to a Monday/ Wednesday/ Friday Patreon posting schedule that won't feature the fixed content format I previously used. So, who knows what today's post might feature? Could be Life Drawing or Distressed Damsels content (both of which are featured at least three times per month), or something in the Work Stages, Vintage Con Sketches or Design departments, or possibly something entirely new, such as updates on fantasy test projects The Last Party and The Chaste and the Chained. Golly!
